CONTEXT

The initial proposal was to create a video that consists of a short film and a montage of my year 2018 that includes creative transitions and effects that presents my skills as a film maker and an editor.

I was successful in doing everything I said I was going to do and it went the way I wanted it to go and even better. In a mission to show off my editing and film making skills as well as to cover and flus out a lot of content, my story and how everything linked into each other could've been improved in terms of clearing showing to the audience what is going on as i received a lot of feedback from a lot of different people saying that they failed to understand what my story is about and what message i was trying to sent out.

This year i have learned a lot of things, for example working with other content creators, everything i need to know about how to light your subject as well as 3D modelling which i thought i would never do.

Most of the time before, i have always worked alone doing my own projects here and there. Now I know the importance of having connections and working with other content creators in general.

Lighting is one of those thing I knew I would eventually need to learn and make use of, however i never got around to do it myself. This year i learned more than I think I would've learned alone.

When i first started doing 3D modelling, it was a big struggle for me as I had little to no interest or skills in this department. Therefore I challenged myself with an impossible task to create and model a whole city off by scratch which eventually i was able to pull it up with a lot of guidance from my friends and teachers.

I am willing to learn more about lighting and would like to make that as one of my speciality to master.

I think I managed to appeal to my target audience which can also backed up by the survey I did to gather information about what age range my viewers were. With this information I able to add in references that a lot of teenagers and young adults would understand and relate to. I added a lot of pop culture references as well as modern memes that my target audience would understand.

RESEARCH

I did a lot of and different types of research ranging from analysing movies to watching YouTube videos

PRACTICAL SKILLS

Overall i think i have improved a lot in general by doing the FMP. For example i have opened my eyes wider to taking cinematography seriously and how to light the subject and so on. As well as to create a story in terms of writing and planning which i never did before (These include screenwriting and storyboarding). I would like to further educate myself more in writing a story and master the art of lighting.

I used a range of softwares to create this FMP. These include "Premiere Pro", "After Effects", "Blender 2.8" and "Photoshop". I am really familiar with premiere pro as i have been using the software for over a year now, however it would be my first time using softwares like blender, after effects and photoshop. Therefore learning these individual softwares took a lot of time however I managed to do everything in time.

I used "After Effects" for most of the heavy effects and tracking as premiere pro don't have those features or isn't powerful enough to execute those effects. I used "Photoshop" to create all the art or template i needed for certain shots, as it wasn't a lot of do this process was pretty easy and quick. And i used "Blender 2.8" for all the 3D modelling i did. The learning curve on Blender is like night and day so it was really hard to get my head around the software. Luckily I blessed with a lot of tutorials available on YouTube that I can learn from.

Planning and scheduling was actually easier than i thought it would be at first. As I consistent in producing my work day in and out with one main whole and plan in mind so i just followed the plan and kept on going.

I am always full on ideas and visions so planning part was really easy to me. I don't normally schedule things expect the due date, as I want all the creative freedom to create whenever I want to as long as I finish everything in time.

Something I told myself to do but i wasn't able to cause of time was to upload sections of my FMP to YouTube ahead of time to check the copyright claims before uploading the whole video. This could've saved me time to clear out any blocked content caused by the music choice. Other preparations i could've done is to do a rough cut of the whole FMP piecing everything together before leaving it to be done in the end. This is something I will do for the next project to save time and effort.

OVERALL

There is a lot of things i learned this year. The main things i learnt was how to 3D model objects and how to light the subjects.

I will master lighting in the coming year fully, as i have just scratched the surface with the basics. Mastering lighting and making it my speciality will allow me to further improve my cinematography skills and for my films to look extra cinematic and Hollywood like.
